We Are an Alternative Matchmaking Service and Community for Getting to Know People

Consonance (Gleichklang) is not a dating app, but an alternative matchmaking service that differs significantly from other dating agencies, dating sites, singles sites, and matchmaking services on the internet in terms of membership, method, and goals. We enable a different, more effective, psychologically grounded form of online dating that is embedded in an alternative spectrum.

The following post presents the basic principles of Consonance but is primarily suitable for readers who wish to inform themselves extensively on the content.

The essential information can also be read in a much shorter and more concise form on the homepage in the sections “Consonance Community,” “Matchmaking with Psychology,” and “all sexual orientations and genders.”

A Different Kind of Dating: The Main Differences

The main differences from a more typical online matchmaking service lie in Consonance’s focus on a membership with a high social-ecological awareness, the inclusion of a broad spectrum of sexual orientations and gender identities, the special support for members with a physical or mental illness or disability, the consideration of spirituality, but also religious criticism and rationality in deriving partner suggestions, the focus of the matchmaking on deriving individual suitable suggestions over time instead of mass lists, and the specific focus on the compatibility of individually particularly central lifestyle characteristics.

Another feature of Consonance is that Consonance is not only an online matchmaking service but a much more general dating site and community that also provides a friendship matchmaking service, as well as contact lists through which projects and communities, shared activities, Consonance groups, or professional collaborations can be found. Consonance thus supports the entire social networking of its members in all special life situations and circumstances.

The goal of the alternative matchmaking operated by Consonance is to support members as effectively as possible in their search for a partner and generally in building and maintaining permanently happy romantic and friendly relationships. At the same time, Consonance also wants to make a small contribution to more tolerance and social-ecological responsibility.

A unique selling point of Consonance is also the strong psychological background, about which we continuously inform our members:

Who Participates in Online Dating at Consonance?

Ecology and Environmental Awareness

Due to its special programmatic approach and public image, Consonance particularly attracts nature-oriented and environmentally conscious people. The majority of Consonance’s members value an ecologically responsible lifestyle, which includes topics such as organic farming, nature conservation, nature-conscious health, as well as animal welfare and animal rights. Accordingly, when searching for a partner, the majority of Consonance’s members value meeting partners with a comparably high ecological awareness.

The online matchmaking and friendship search at Consonance are therefore geared towards Green Dating (also called eco-dating), where members specifically search for other people for a sustainable and ecologically responsible lifestyle. Consonance members want to make this world a little better through their relationships. In the German-speaking region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), Consonance is the only online matchmaking service and dating site that clearly orients itself towards the principles of Green Dating.

Value-oriented partner search and value-oriented online dating for us means bringing together people who can be happy with each other based on shared values. But it also means having an impact on this world by having these people set positive signals together. While this second aspect is indirect in partner search or friendship search, it is direct in our community contact lists:

  • Here, people meet who want to engage in projects and communities for a better world. Most orient themselves towards the well-known and still valid motto “Think globally, act locally.”

Vegetarianism and Veganism

More than 25% of Consonance’s members are vegetarians. Approximately 7% of Consonance’s members are vegans. About 50% of Consonance members either already live vegetarian or vegan or want to become vegetarian or vegan in the future. More than a third of the vegetarian members state that they would like to become vegan. Only 2% of our members eat meat daily according to their own statements. The non-vegetarian and non-vegan members are therefore predominantly flexitarians.

When these percentages are compared with the general society, a particularly high representation of vegetarian and vegan people at Consonance becomes clear. The proportion of flexitarians is also far higher than in the general population. Although figures on the proportion of vegetarians in German-speaking countries vary depending on the survey method, it can be said that the proportion of vegetarians in the general population is about 3–5% and the proportion of vegans is apparently about 1–2%.

The Consonance community is therefore much more plant-based than the general population:

  • This, in turn, is centrally important for Consonance’s character as a Green Dating platform, since no other lifestyle is as gentle on the climate and can stop climate change as effectively as a plant-based diet.

The vegetarian and vegan members at Consonance, in the majority, value getting to know other vegetarian or vegan individuals, or people who would like to become vegetarian or vegan, when searching for a partner or friends.

By selectively attracting vegetarians and vegans, as well as people who want to become one, as members through our public image and basic principles, we can ensure a particularly effective matchmaking service for vegetarians and vegans.

Furthermore, it is a special concern of Consonance to promote veganism by providing a platform for effective contact and partner search. We are the only online matchmaking service and community for getting to know people in the German-speaking region that has been dedicated to this goal for 16 years. Also read our dating tips for vegan singles or our dating tips for vegetarian singles.

A comprehensive investigation of the motives of vegans for choosing a vegan partner can also be read in this blog article:

Spirituality and Rationality

Due to its alternative-ecological approach to matchmaking, Consonance attracts both spiritually interested individuals and those with a pronounced scientific way of thinking:

  • Nearly half of Consonance’s members are particularly interested in topics of spirituality and also aspire to a shared spiritual lifestyle in a partnership. Many of our members have a particular affinity for Buddhism.
  • In contrast, about 30% of Consonance’s members can be described as scientifically-minded rationalists, while about 20% are neither particularly spiritual nor feel particularly connected to a scientific way of thinking.

Consonance itself is neutral regarding the positioning in the field of tension between “spirituality versus rationality” and actively supports both member groups in their search for a partner by using a psychologically sound and reputable matchmaking system to find the right person for them, with whom a mutually satisfying way of life is possible.

We support relationship building for people of all religious, spiritual, agnostic, or atheistic convictions. A prerequisite for membership at Consonance, however, is that there is appreciation and tolerance towards all legitimate sexual orientations and gender identities. We do not accept any form of religious fundamentalism, intolerance, homophobia, transphobia, or masculinism.

On this common basis, we enable effective matchmaking and partner search for people with the most diverse attitudes towards religion and spirituality and the most varied faiths. Accordingly, atheistic, agnostic, esoteric, Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Hindu members search for partnership and friendship here. Rarer religious orientations, such as Bahai or Shintoism, are also represented among us.

Meditation and Yoga

A recent evaluation of our data (2022) has yielded the following results:

  • 49% of Consonance members meditate.
  • 47% practice yoga.
  • 64% meditate, practice yoga, or do both.

Meditation and yoga are practiced more frequently by spiritual members, but there are also agnostic and atheistic members who practice meditation, yoga, or both and experience them as an important part of their daily lives:

  • 80% of spiritual members practice meditation, yoga, or both.
  • 49% of those who are neither for nor against spirituality practice meditation, yoga, or both.
  • 26% of those who explicitly reject spirituality practice meditation, yoga, or both.

The particularly frequent practice of meditation and yoga is therefore another special feature of the Consonance dating community. Members can also use this as a criterion for matchmaking and friendship search if they wish. They will then, for example, be suggested other members who also meditate.

Scientific studies show that meditation – and especially shared meditation – can improve the depth of relationships. We know that Consonance couples and Consonance friends experience the opportunity for shared meditation, yoga, or contemplation as highly bonding. Consonance is thus the leading reputable and psychologically oriented platform in the German-speaking region where those seeking a partner, friendship, or projects can specifically base their search on compatibility in the areas of meditation and contemplation.

Gender Distribution

The gender distribution at Consonance is not symmetrical; more women participate in the partner search at Consonance than men. The ratio of women to men at Consonance is approximately 2 (women) to 1 (men). In addition, there are currently just under 3% non-binary individuals at Consonance, i.e., people who are not clearly assigned to the male or female gender. This includes transgender people, intersex individuals, gender-fluid individuals (genderqueer), as well as people who experience themselves as gender-neutral (Neutrois) or androgynous.

The situation of the overrepresentation of women can be explained by the fact that, according to scientific studies, women are on average more interested in psychology, ecology, vegetarianism, veganism, and spirituality – two content areas shared as interests by many Consonance members. Likewise, women on average tend to seek long-term relationships, while men tend to have a greater inclination for erotic adventures, which are not facilitated at Consonance. Ultimately, the overrepresentation of women at Consonance is explained by the connection to psychology as well as the high seriousness of the partner search possible at Consonance. The “surplus of women” is therefore actually a quality feature for an online matchmaking service and dating platform. In contrast, dating apps and many other dating sites typically have a “surplus of men,” which actually has a negative impact on the chances of finding a partner, even for women, because many of these men are not actually looking for a committed relationship.

The men who can be found at Consonance differ from the men who register on other dating sites, and it could be said somewhat provocatively that the men seeking partners at Consonance have somewhat stronger female characteristics than a man who prefers to register on other contact and singles sites. In other words:

  • Men at Consonance exhibit increased levels of reliability, interest in psychology, ecological orientation, plant-based lifestyles (vegetarian, vegan), and a high level of seriousness in their search for a partner, compared to what is typically the case on dating apps and other dating sites.

Consonance is the contact point for people of all gender identities. Even though non-binary individuals, genderqueer people, intersex individuals, and transsexual people represent only a small proportion of the total membership, they are nevertheless much more strongly represented at Consonance than at other matchmaking services. The relatively high number of non-binary individuals is due to Consonance’s special commitment to openness towards all gender identities, in order to help all interested parties, regardless of gender, achieve a permanently happy partnership. Consonance is the only online matchmaking service that places the principle of openness to all gender identities so strongly in the foreground. In fact, most large matchmaking services do not even allow people with a non-binary gender to enter their gender identity.

We ensure that an effective and appreciative search for a partner and friends is possible for all our members – regardless of whether they are women, men, or non-binary. Even in times of Trump and Merz, which represent a global societal setback, we consistently adhere to our inclusive orientation and enable people of all genders and legitimate sexual orientations to conduct a meaningful and respectful search for a partner and friends.

This not only has a positive effect on non-binary or non-heterosexual members. Quite the opposite:

  • The spirit of inclusivity and acceptance that we cultivate on our platform leads to more social responsibility, care, and authenticity – from which all members benefit.

It may not be immediately obvious why our inclusion approach is actually an important benefit for all our members seeking partners and friendships:

  • Imagine you were on a platform where predominantly Trump supporters are present. Would you find your relationship happiness there? At Consonance, the orientation is exactly the opposite – and precisely this increases the chances of genuine encounters, care, responsibility, friendship, and love.

Age Groups and Generations

Consonance offers a psychologically based matchmaking service for all generations. The average age of our members is 50, and 50+ is the strongest area. While overall the 30–60 age group constitutes the majority of members at Consonance, they are immediately followed by seniors. Even a member over 90 years of age participates in the partner search at Consonance.

The Consonance PRINCIPLE of matchmaking based on the compatibility of partner ideas and lifestyles is particularly beneficial for seniors, because in old age, lifestyle and life foundations are already established to a greater extent. Especially in old age, the successful start of a new partnership is tied to a genuine compatibility of lifestyles to a particularly high degree. The high seriousness of the Consonance matchmaking service therefore supports seniors particularly effectively.

However, there is also often a need for competent support in the search for a partner among the younger generation of 18 to 30, which is why Consonance also has members in early adulthood, albeit less frequently.

Consonance sees itself as a matchmaking service and dating platform for all generations, whereby partnerships between members of different age groups are also successfully facilitated, depending on the wishes and preferences of the members.

Educational Level and Educational Interests

Consonance tends to attract a particularly educated membership. Significantly more than 50% of Consonance members have a university degree. However, Consonance does not see itself as an elitist matchmaking service in any way and interprets the overrepresentation of higher education groups as an expression of Consonance’s special focus on psychology-related topics and methodologies. Consonance is pleased that by no means exclusively academics participate in the partner search at Consonance, but that members with all educational qualifications can be found among the members. Consonance offers a reputable online matchmaking service to make the partner search successful for its members with all educational backgrounds.

Consonance accepts and enables members’ desire to restrict the partner search to certain educational qualifications, but advises against choosing this option, since a formal educational qualification is completely insufficient to make a truly meaningful statement about a person. According to the Consonance PRINCIPLE, the compatibility of concrete lifestyles, fundamental convictions, wishes, and hopes, as well as personalities, is far more decisive than the congruence of formal educational qualifications.

Income Situations

Consonance does not directly collect income information from its members and therefore cannot make specific statements on this aspect. While the majority of members at Consonance are professionally established, there are also members who, for a variety of reasons – sometimes due to illness or simply because they are single mothers or fathers – barely get by financially.

Consonance has therefore decided to offer a social rate upon request, which, at only 6 EUR for 6 months of membership, is not cost-covering. With this, Consonance wants to help ensure that no one’s membership at Consonance fails due to finances. Because partnership is a central aspect of life satisfaction for all people. The fact that Consonance specifically supports people with lower incomes in their partner search is considered by Consonance to be part of its alternative claim.

We are the only online matchmaking service in the German-speaking region that ensures everyone is treated equally and that the partner search never fails due to budget constraints. Also read our dating tips for single parents.

Single Parents

Single parents – mothers, fathers, and parents – constitute a significant proportion of the membership at Consonance at just under 15%, whereby, corresponding to the overall distribution, slightly less than 80% of single parents at Consonance are women, slightly less than 20% are men, and a small proportion are also single parents and non-binary. Single mothers, fathers, and non-binary parents therefore find their way to Consonance in significantly and disproportionately high numbers because here they have the opportunity to participate in an effective, reputable, but also particularly safe matchmaking service.

Among the single-parent members of Consonance, there are not only heterosexual individuals but also gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, and asexual persons. Consonance expressly welcomes and promotes the shared parenting role of same-sex couples or other constellations outside heteronormativity, which is to be regarded as a significant societal advancement. The same applies to adoptions, which is why Consonance asks all its members about the presence of a desire to have children.

However, Consonance does not allow anyone to specifically search for partners with children, but merely inquires about general acceptance, which is then used as a basis for deriving partner suggestions. This is intended to prevent abuse by pedophiles. In addition, Consonance only offers paid memberships, so the threshold for membership is raised, which also reduces abuse.

Finally, Consonance’s membership is characterized by a particularly high degree of sensitivity and seriousness, so that attempted abuse is highly likely to be reported immediately and can be stopped by Consonance. Even if security can never be fully guaranteed, Consonance, as a reputable matchmaking service, nevertheless represents a particularly safe form of partner search for single parents.

Sexual Orientations

Consonance is an online matchmaking service for all legitimate sexual orientations. This includes heterosexual as well as queer with all queer forms and possibilities.

We stand for tolerance and the promotion of diverse lifestyles and sexual orientations, as long as it concerns sexuality between consenting adults. In addition to our heterosexual members, we support queer members in their partner search, which includes many further sexual orientations, such as the partner search of our homosexual (lesbian, gay), bisexual, asexual (also gray-asexual), demisexual, pansexual (bi+/ omnisexual/multisexual) members, and our members with mutual BDSM tendencies based on respect and appreciation.

We equally support the partner search of skoliosexual members who would like to meet non-binary individuals. Sapiosexual members, where sexual attraction is triggered by intellectuality, also have excellent matchmaking opportunities at Consonance. They can tailor their search to people with a high level of education, who are represented at Consonance to a particularly strong degree:

  • Bisexuality is the second most common sexual orientation after heterosexuality, but it is almost completely neglected at most large online matchmaking services. In existing partnerships, the bisexual orientation is often hidden and not infrequently secretly lived out with other individuals. As the only dating agency, Consonance offers a special matchmaking service for bisexuals. Consonance enables an effective partner search for its bisexual members specifically by recording and considering acceptance for bisexuality. This can also lead to open relationships or polyamorous partnerships of three or four, as sought by some bisexual members for the optimal realization of their relationship search. Bisexuals form a strong minority at Consonance, currently about 10%. While bisexuality is still far too often invisible in society and on dating sites, we make bisexuality visible within the framework of our alternative matchmaking and actively support our bisexual members in their search for a partner. For bisexuals looking for an online matchmaking service, we are therefore the first point of contact.
  • Pansexuality refers to a sexual orientation in which sexual attraction can be experienced regardless of gender. For pansexuals, it therefore makes no difference whether the other person is a man, a woman, or a non-binary individual. Androgynous individuals or people with trans identity, intersexuality, gender neutrality, or gender fluidity are also fundamentally possible for pansexuals for love relationships and/or sexual relationships without restriction. Gender or gender identity are therefore not relevant criteria for pansexual individuals in their partner choice. Omnisexuality, multisexuality, or polysexuality have a strong similarity to pansexuality and the same consequences arise for matchmaking. Omnisexuals find gendered characteristics arousing and interesting, but all gendered characteristics are experienced as attractive. Multisexual or polysexual people are also sexually attracted to diverse gendered characteristics. Matchmaking at Consonance therefore takes place under the umbrella of the “pansexual search.” This means that suitable individuals of all genders and gender identities can be suggested to pansexual members. Consonance supports pansexuality and pansexualism as an expression of a search for connection, love, and security that is purely focused on being human, and is also capable of overcoming existing societal gender stereotypes and barriers. Just under 20% of Consonance members have currently opted for pansexual partner search. To our knowledge, we are the only online matchmaking service for pansexuals.
  • Asexuality is another particularity of sexual behavior, whereby asexual individuals are characterized by a particularly low or non-existent sexual desire or a lack of interest in sexual contact with another person. However, many asexual individuals aspire to partnerships that correspond to a platonic relationship. Due to the objectively incorrect coupling of partnership with sexuality, which many consider necessary, individuals with asexuality and asexual or platonic relationship desires currently find partner search significantly more difficult in society. For this reason, Consonance offers its asexual members the opportunity to specifically search for relationships without sexuality. However, not all individuals who search for or can imagine a relationship without sexuality must be asexual. Many different constellations are conceivable that can lead to this desire. At Consonance, we therefore record asexuality and the desire for a relationship without sex separately. In addition, members can indicate whether they can only imagine a relationship without sex or whether they can imagine both a relationship with and a relationship without sex. Asexuality is not only to be considered as present or absent; there is also a spectrum of asexuality, which is also referred to as gray-asexual. Some also classify the term demisexuality into this gray-asexual spectrum, which refers to the fact that sexual arousal occurs exclusively within a close love relationship. Gray-asexuals can indicate in their search that sex plays no or only a minor role for them. Demisexuals can indicate that sexuality should only start slowly, namely when a love relationship has already developed. Based on our queries and their consideration in the matching algorithm, we enable effective online matchmaking for asexuals, gray-asexuals, and demisexuals. This is another unique selling point of the online matchmaking service we offer.
  • Skoliosexuality refers to the fact that not all individuals seeking a partner are looking for a man or a woman. There are also people who are attracted not to the binary genders but to non-binary individuals. For skoliosexuals, non-binary individuals are therefore interesting as partners, which includes the orientations genderqueer (diverse interpretations of gender identities), transgender, intersexuality, androgyny, gender neutrality, or gender fluidity. There are people who assign themselves to one of the binary genders, male or female, but who would like to meet non-binary individuals as partners. Likewise, there are non-binary individuals who would like to meet other non-binary individuals for their partner search. In our matchmaking, we enable a skoliosexual search and thus open up perspectives for people in their partner search who are often forgotten by large online matchmaking services. About 25% of Consonance members are also looking for a non-binary person as a partner, although the proportion of purely skoliosexual-seeking members (non-binary only) is very small. As an online matchmaking service, we enable a skoliosexual partner search and accordingly invite all skoliosexual singles seeking a partner to come to us.
  • Sapiosexuality means a sexual and romantic attraction that is not triggered by external characteristics but by intellectuality, wisdom, and intelligence. Although sapiosexuality is not yet an established concept in sexology, it is undisputed that intellect and intelligence can trigger romantic and even sexual attraction. Some people describe such a strong sexual-romantic attraction through the intellect of another person that the introduction of the separate term “sapiosexuality” seems justified. This is all the more true given that, conversely, there are people for whom intellect and intelligence play no role whatsoever in their sexual attraction. Sapiosexuals are also referred to as Nymphobrainiacs, which is another linguistic description for a perceived strong erotic attraction through the brain (intellect) of another person. Our online matchmaking service offers members with a sapiosexual erotic orientation very good opportunities to make their partner search successful with us. At Consonance, there are particularly many educated people who, beyond their formal educational level, engage intellectually, scientifically, or artistically with this world. By indicating in their search that engagement with educational topics is particularly important to them, sapiosexuals structure the resulting partner suggestions so that the prospect of experienced erotic-romantic attraction is increased.
  • Sexual Fluidity means a fluidity of sexual orientation in the sense of openness to (temporary/situational) change and experimentation. How sexually fluid you are yourself can be determined in this psychological test. The traditional notion that our sexual orientation is fixed and unchangeable once and for all is not correct. Observations in various contexts and cultures show, for example, that typically heterosexual individuals can also have sexual contacts with same-sex individuals. Likewise, homosexual individuals can have sexual contacts and relationships with opposite-sex individuals. This interest in sexual contacts outside one’s own typical orientation is also described as temporally and situationally fluid, meaning it is sometimes more and sometimes less present. The interest in genders outside one’s own typical orientation is not so strong or persistent that these individuals would describe themselves as bisexual. The terms homoflexibility and heteroflexibility are also used to describe this sexual fluidity. Heteroflexible individuals typically consider themselves heterosexual but can imagine sexual contacts of a homosexual nature under certain circumstances. Conversely, homoflexible individuals are typically homosexual but can imagine sexual contacts of a heterosexual nature under certain circumstances. People are often unaware of their own sexual fluidity, possibly due to internalized societal pressure towards heteronormativity. However, a relationship with bisexual partners may make the individuals concerned aware of their own sexual fluidity and thus encourage experimentation, for example within the framework of a swinger relationship, an open relationship, or a polyamorous relationship. With the help of our matchmaking service, we effectively support singles seeking a partner with sexual flexibility in their search. Heteroflexible and homoflexible individuals can indicate in their search, for example, that they would also like to meet bisexual people. In addition, sexually fluid individuals may also have a greater interest in non-binary individuals, which can also be entered in the search. For the relationship model, homoflexible or heteroflexible individuals can choose an open relationship or polyamory as their desired model. This increases the prospects that within the new relationship, opportunities will arise for living out and integrating their sexual fluidity (without jealousy) into the partnership.
  • BDSM / SM are abbreviations that refer to existing sexual needs for the playful expression of submission (submissive role) or dominance (active-dominant part), which can also – playfully – include the infliction of pain according to agreed arrangements. BDSM and SM, in the sense used by Consonance, refer to legitimate forms of human sexuality between consenting adult individuals. Consonance does not facilitate sexual contacts, but partnerships and friendships. People with an interest in SM or BDSM often have the desire to integrate their sexual orientation into a committed partnership, which is entirely possible and, in Consonance’s view, worthy of support. Consonance therefore enables its members with an interest in SM or BDSM to use a special matchmaking service for SM or BDSM to search for partners to live out their inclination within a relationship based on loyalty, love, and commitment. Individuals with an interest in SM or BDSM currently represent about 10% of the members at Consonance. While some people have BDSM inclinations, others have no interest in them or experience BDSM as negative. In matchmaking, we therefore ensure that we bring together the right people who can build a fulfilling sexuality with each other without toxic tensions or frustration. Some members without BDSM tendencies have reservations about Consonance having included this criterion. However, it should be said that studies prove that a tendency towards BDSM is not associated with profound personality abnormalities and has absolutely nothing to do with criminal violence. Otherwise, no increased incidence of mental disorders, incompatible traits, or a tendency towards violence is found in people with BDSM inclinations. Playful BDSM tendencies are therefore to be regarded as a completely legitimate expression of sexuality. Incidentally, BDSM occurs equally frequently among men and women, with men and women each taking on the submissive, the dominant, or a switching role approximately equally often. BDSM is therefore not in the context of misogyny or sexism. There is also no evidence that playful forms of BDSM are more likely to transition into pathological or dangerous paraphilias (sexual deviance). Matchmaking at Consonance, including BDSM, therefore supports those involved in building appreciative relationships with each other. At the same time, it supports those members without BDSM inclinations, to whom no individuals with BDSM inclinations are suggested as partners. To our knowledge, Consonance is the only online matchmaking service with a psychological matching algorithm that includes BDSM inclination in the matchmaking. This increases the prospects for all members of a happy and also sustainable partnership.

Understanding and Promoting Sexual Compatibility

Sexuality is an important aspect of our life satisfaction and the fulfillment we can achieve. By aligning numerous orientations of sexuality with each other at Consonance, the chances increase that our members can build a fulfilling and satisfied sexual life together.

Again, the alignment benefits everyone, because a distinct incompatibility can often curtail the possibilities of shared erotic experiences. By focusing on compatibility at Consonance, we create the prerequisite for sexual satisfaction. In our psychological matching, we see compatibility not as a static, fixed quantity, but as a relationship process.

With matching, we cannot directly influence this relationship process, but we work on the foundation so that our members can achieve sexual compatibility together. Especially if sexual satisfaction and compatibility are important to you, we also recommend this video:

Illnesses and Disabilities

Consonance specifically supports its members with a physical or mental illness or disability (handicap) in their search for a partner. We also specifically support members with autism and Asperger’s syndrome. The foundations for this are explained in this article: Matchmaking for Autistics. We also specifically support members with ADHD, other neurodivergent or neurodiverse characteristics, sexual dysfunctions (erectile dysfunction, orgasmic disorders, vaginismus, other pain during sexuality), as well as members with HIV in their partner search.

We are committed to inclusivity. No one should be excluded from relationships and social networks due to disabilities, illnesses, handicaps, or HIV:

  • In our matchmaking for disabled people and individuals with illnesses or other medical or psychological conditions, we ensure that the individuals concerned will encounter rejection or refusal significantly less frequently in their partner search than is unfortunately common on dating apps, large matchmaking services, and most singles sites.

Inclusivity means that in our matchmaking, we do not specifically match disabled people with disabled people, individuals with Asperger’s or autism with autistics, people with physical illnesses with ill people, individuals with sexual dysfunctions with individuals with sexual dysfunctions, or HIV-positive individuals with HIV-positive individuals. Rather, we base matchmaking for people with disabilities, handicaps, physical or mental illnesses on acceptance.

We ask all our members whether they are also willing to enter into a partnership with people with disabilities, handicaps, physical or mental illnesses, Asperger’s and autism, sexual dysfunctions, or HIV. If this acceptance exists, a suggestion can be made, even if the person concerned has no disability or illness.

With our matchmaking for people with disabilities and handicaps, we want to enable our members, who are often exposed to difficulties and discrimination in various social and private areas, to have a partner search with ease and particularly high effectiveness.

Regarding the general situation of people with disabilities, handicaps, physical illnesses, mental illnesses, sexual dysfunctions, or other medical conditions such as HIV, we have published a longer article in the Consonance relationship blog, with the findings summarized as follows:

  • Studies from the USA show that people with disabilities are less likely to be married than people without disabilities. However, the differences between disabled and non-disabled individuals are not large and are largely attributable to learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and multiple disabilities.
  • Basically, these figures are optimistic insofar as people with disabilities also have good prospects for a marital relationship. However, this seems somewhat more difficult for women with disabilities than for men. Although these data refer to marriage rates, marriage rates and committed relationships are strongly correlated, so conclusions for marriage rates generally also apply to committed relationships.
  • The need for partnership and relationship is universal and applies to people with disabilities and illnesses just as it does to people without disabilities or illnesses.
  • Currently, Consonance records the following areas: physical disabilities, reliance on a wheelchair, physical illnesses, severe physical illnesses, mental illnesses (e.g., anxiety disorder, milder depression, adjustment disorders, mild obsessive-compulsive disorders, mild eating disorders, mild somatoform disorders, milder autism with high functioning, such as Asperger’s syndrome, etc.), severe mental illnesses (psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, severe depression, severe obsessive-compulsive disorders, severe eating disorders, severe somatoform disorders), sexual dysfunctions (erectile dysfunction, vaginismus, disorder with sexual aversion, disorder with lack of sexual appetite, pain disorders, etc.), as well as the presence of an HIV infection. In the future, we will differentiate between sensory disabilities (blindness, hearing loss, etc.) and physical disabilities.
  • The frequency of the various conditions among our members is as follows: physical disability – 7.9%, wheelchair – 0.6%, physical illness – 12.5%, severe physical illness – 0.9%, mental illness – 16.2%, severe mental illness – 1.5%, sexual dysfunctions – 10.7%, positive HIV status – 1.3%. There are no significant differences between men, women, and non-binary individuals in this regard. Taking all conditions together, at least one of the mentioned problem areas is currently present in 28% of members. This essentially corresponds to the distribution in the general population and also makes it clear that disabilities, handicaps, and illnesses are not a “marginal phenomenon.”

We promote acceptance among our members. Relationships with people with disabilities and illnesses are just as appreciative, satisfying, and stable as relationships with people without disabilities. People with disabilities or illnesses are not reduced to their disability, handicap, or illness. They can give their partners stability and emotional support just like people without disabilities or handicaps.

Among our members, the following acceptance rates emerge, whereby answering with “maybe” is evaluated as fundamental openness:

  • 35.8% of members show fundamental acceptance for a partnership with a person with a physical disability. 10.8% of members affirm this fundamental acceptance for a relationship with a person who is dependent on a wheelchair. 37.2% of members affirm fundamental acceptance for a relationship with a person with a physical illness; for a severe physical illness, fundamental acceptance is 11.8%. For mental illnesses, fundamental acceptance is 39.9%, dropping to 8.5% for severe mental illnesses. For sexual dysfunctions, fundamental acceptance is 29.2%. Fundamental acceptance for a relationship with an HIV-positive person is 15.4%.

Basically, fundamental acceptance for a relationship with a person with a disability, handicap, or illness is highest among our non-binary members and members from the genderqueer spectrum, while women and men show approximately equal fundamental acceptance.

Why Is Acceptance Sometimes Lacking?

We have also investigated why members may not show acceptance for a relationship with people with disabilities or illnesses:

  • Members fear that they will not be able to experience enough positivity together, that they will not be up to the situation, or that they will be shortchanged in a relationship with people with disabilities or handicaps. In fact, however, most activities are still possible with aids or support. Moreover, the fear of being shortchanged is typically unfounded, as partners with disabilities or illnesses can be supportive and emotionally attentive.
  • With HIV, there are fears of infection, which are unfounded, as transmission with medical adjustment is, according to current scientific findings, unfounded even without the use of condoms.

How do members with disabilities, handicaps, illnesses, sexual dysfunctions, or HIV experience the partner search?

We evaluated the free self-descriptions of members for this purpose. The following results emerged:

  • Almost every second person reported self-doubt, inhibitions, and excessive caution. The acceptance principle in Consonance’s matchmaking can help reduce these barriers, as rejections are reduced.
  • Every fourth person stated that they pay particularly close attention to compatibility in the partner search to avoid burdens and incompatibilities. This is exactly what we do in our matchmaking, by ensuring both acceptance and the compatibility of values and lifestyles.
  • Almost every sixth person reported direct effects of the impairment on relationship management, such as on sexual life. Here, too, acceptance in our matchmaking has a positive effect, as resulting fears can be mitigated.
  • Approximately every eighth person reported a lack of drive. We try to motivate our members to actively seize the opportunities of their partner search at Consonance and thus practice overcoming weak drive.

Ideally, it would not matter for the partner search whether a person is disabled, ill, or affected by other special conditions such as an HIV infection. However, this is not the reality in our current society.

To make it easier for our members with handicaps or illnesses to find a partner, we have therefore introduced the principle of matchmaking based on acceptance.

The evaluations of our success rates give cause for optimism. Because they show that in our online matchmaking, people with disabilities, handicaps, and illnesses have the same chances of a successful partner search with us as all other members. Fortunately, according to our current data, members who are dependent on a wheelchair even have an above-average probability of successfully finding a partner.

Online dating is therefore a promising way for people with disabilities or illnesses to bring their search for a partner to a successful conclusion.

Rubenesque Figures

People with significantly increased body weight (Rubenesque figures) can encounter barriers in their partner search; on the other hand, there are enough other people for whom a fuller figure is not an obstacle at all but increases attractiveness. Consonance thus also represents a special matchmaking service for plus-size individuals, as acceptance for fuller body shapes is queried from every member and partner suggestions are derived on this basis. This is intended to counteract any form of rejection based on figure a priori and to enable our plus-size members an equally relaxed and effective form of partner search.

However, Consonance does not want to promote figure fetishism and especially not health-damaging practices in which often slim, young men, referred to as “feeders,” literally feed very large women, called “feedies,” thus making them emotionally dependent and physically confining them to bed. We motivate our members to eat healthily and plant-based, as well as to pay attention to their health and thus their mental and physical well-being through sufficient exercise.

Members who wish to work on their solidarity-based self-optimization and personality development – which also includes establishing a healthy diet and sufficient exercise – can arrange coaching sessions with our co-founder, psychologist, and coach Guido F. Gebauer for this purpose.

Relationship Models

There are many different ways to structure romantic relationships:

  • Relationships living together
  • Living Apart Together: relationships with separate apartments close to each other
  • Long-distance relationships

Likewise, there are different models for how sexuality can be lived within a relationship:

  • Monogamous couple relationships with sexual exclusivity – the most common form of relationship.
  • Open relationships, in which partners can have sexual contacts with other people.
  • Swinger relationships, in which couples have sex together with other individuals or couples.
  • Polyamorous relationships (polyamory), in which a person has two or more partners, with some polyamorous relationships distinguishing between primary partners and secondary partners, though this is not the case in all polyamorous relationships. A polyamorous relationship can also lead to a group relationship if more than two people have a love relationship with each other. In addition, a polyamorous relationship can be combined with an open relationship or a swinger relationship if separate or shared erotic contacts with third parties are possible outside the polyamorous constellation. Likewise, polyamory can take monogamous forms if no further sexual or romantic relationships take place outside the polyamorous constellation.

Several articles on monogamy, polyamory, and open relationships can be read on the Consonance relationship blog, as well as on spatial proximity or separation. Psychological studies show that all these relationship models can become happy if the right people with comparable relationship models find each other. Compatibility of relationship models is therefore a central feature of our online matchmaking service.

Consonance commits to the diversity of human relationship models, which we regard as a societal enrichment and expansion of human options for action. In this respect, we consider all these types of relationships to be completely legitimate and worthy of individual support, and we search for the people whose relationship models match yours.

As in all other examples, it becomes clear again with relationship models that everyone truly benefits when these aspects are considered:

In many relationships, monogamy is assumed, and even people who are not monogamous often enter into monogamous agreements again and again for cultural and societal reasons, whether explicitly or implicitly.

But those who are not meant for monogamy will also not be sexually fulfilled in a monogamous arrangement. As a result, those affected eventually cheat, which is a real breach of trust. No one benefits from this:

  • Those affected feel guilty or feel unfree. They lead a double life. Their partners can be emotionally deeply hurt as a result. Conflicts and separations are not infrequently the outcome.

This is where we at Consonance intervene through matching:

  • We motivate our members to search only for the relationship models they truly want and can live. This brings together people who can develop and live a shared relationship model.

Those Seeking Partnership, Friendship, and Travel Companions

At Consonance, members can search for partnership, friendship, or both. Currently, 90% use the partner search. Of these 90%, about 1/3 additionally search for friends. Only 10% of Consonance members search exclusively for friendship. Of those searching for friendship, about 1/3 additionally search or search only for travel companions.

But even the 10% are more than we think, and we can often decisively advance exactly these 10% in their search for friends and thus in their life satisfaction. Likewise, many who are also on a partner search report to us that they found valuable friendships. Some Consonance couples find mutual friends and remain connected to each other permanently.

At Consonance, the search for friendship/travel partnerships is separate from the partner search to also enable a pure friendship search, which is interesting for those members who are no longer single but already living in a partnership. The friendship search is used particularly intensively by the vegetarian, vegan, and also single-parent members, who, more than other groups, have an interest in new friends that match their convictions and life situations.

Who Is Not at Consonance?

Consonance is available to all people who are seriously searching for partnership and friendship and demonstrate tolerance towards diverse lifestyles, as an effective platform for psychologically based and reputable matchmaking and friendship search.

Whom Consonance does not want to attract as members are individuals characterized by homophobic, sexist, or racist ideas. Also, people who do not consider it necessary to better protect our natural living conditions and halt environmental destruction are rather out of place at Consonance. Due to Consonance’s very clear public image in this regard, it is also unlikely that such individuals would decide to become members of an alternative dating portal like Consonance.

Also out of place at Consonance are people who are not really serious about their search for a partner or relationship. Unlike dating apps, Consonance is not suitable as a dating site for trend orientation, thrill-seeking, or pure self-validation. Rather, we address people who are very serious about seeking relationships: within the framework of online matchmaking for romantic relationships, within the framework of friendship matchmaking for friendships or travel companions, and within the framework of contact lists for projects, communities, Consonance regulars’ tables or Consonance groups, shared leisure activities, or professional collaborations.

As diverse as the relationships facilitated or enabled by Consonance may be, they all share a genuine interest in relationships.

Methodology of Alternative Matchmaking

So far, it has been primarily about the special characteristics of Consonance members and the diverse characteristics and relationship styles we consider in online matchmaking and friendship matchmaking.

But Consonance differs from dating apps and other online matchmaking services not only by considering many relationship models or our focus on Green Dating (eco-dating), but we also apply different methods in matchmaking than those typically used by matchmaking services. The following section provides an overview of this:

Preferences and Desires

As already described, Consonance records a wide variety of preferences and desires for a future romantic or friendly relationship to support the partner search.

This includes, for example, the desire for a vegetarian or vegan partner, an intended shared spirituality, religiosity, an intended ecological lifestyle, or also desires for marriage, children, weekend or long-distance relationships. Of course, age preferences and desired locations are also queried for matchmaking. In addition, various desired – or undesired – characteristics come into play, such as single parent, smoking, body figure and height, disabilities, illnesses, sexual orientations (heterosexual, lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, pansexual (omnisexual, polysexual, multisexual), homoflexible, heteroflexible, BDSM or SM preferences, genders, such as woman, man, intersexuality, gender fluidity, transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, artistic lifestyle, animal companions (cats, dogs, horses, small mammals, fish, birds, amphibians/reptiles, spiders/insects), and special characteristics, such as high sensitivity, disabilities and handicaps, physical and mental illnesses, autism and Asperger’s, sexual dysfunctions, HIV, further orientations of sexuality, such as the significance and speed of sex in a relationship, as well as the various relationship models (monogamous, polyamory, open relationship).

These and other characteristics are evaluated as absolute inclusion and exclusion criteria depending on the members’ details. This means that two members in our matchmaking will only be suggested to each other if there are no fundamental incompatibilities in their partner-related (or friendship-related) wishes and preferences.

Or, positively formulated:

  • Those individuals who are characterized by a high compatibility of their mutual needs and desires can be suggested to each other.

The Big Difference from Dating Apps

This procedure differs fundamentally from dating apps, other online matchmaking services, and also from singles sites:

  • Dating Apps: On dating apps, almost exclusively the photo and information on location (geo-coordinates) are the primary criteria for getting to know someone. Psychological characteristics are used to nearly 0%. The decision for a positive rating or making contact on dating apps is controlled almost exclusively by automated, signal-driven cognitive processes that occur within a few seconds and are hardly consciously traceable. On dating apps, participants function similarly to stimulus-response systems in traditional association psychology. The problem here is that these split-second decisions on dating apps are completely independent of those characteristics that, from psychological studies, are known to be actually significant for relationship satisfaction and the stability of partnerships. These are agreement in values and societal convictions, in basic relationship models, in life philosophy, and in life goals. Since these factors are almost completely absent from dating apps, dating apps can contribute to entertainment, fun, trend orientation, thrill-seeking, and eroticism, but they are hardly suitable for forming committed relationships. Correspondingly, dating apps often mobilize highly gender-stereotyping processes, whereby women tend to emphasize their good looks in their pictures and men emphasize their status. Presumably, the low suitability of dating apps for matchmaking and finding a partner can also explain the paradox that in our current society we have more contact opportunities than ever before, but at the same time the single rate is higher than ever, even though more than 90% of adults desire a committed romantic relationship. Dating apps are used millions of times, but they rarely lead to lasting partnerships.
  • Singles Sites: The typical characteristic of singles sites is that they largely function like classified ads, only presented on the internet. Users of singles sites can view all profiles using various filter functions. So, it is usually possible to scroll freely through all available profiles. Unlike matchmaking services, there is no matching algorithm; instead, users find their own matches themselves. This creates the subjective impression of great personal control, which is usually experienced as positive. However, the problem here is that all users can continuously scroll through all profiles, creating a permanent competition of all against all. Being noticed as an individual is therefore more difficult. But above all, psychological studies show that users can hardly assess the true compatibility of profiles, often resort to highly abbreviated criteria, and the quality of the selection processes decreases the more the number of suggestions increases. The lack of a psychologically sound matching makes it more difficult for participants to find the truly suitable person with whom they can become permanently happy.
  • Matchmaking Services: Most matchmaking services use a very general model for their matching, according to which similarity in personality plays a central role in the matchmaking. The theory behind these models is that personality similarity enables happier and more stable relationships. However, the problem with this approach is that psychological studies show that much more important than general personality traits is the agreement in central values, relationship models, and life goals. If this agreement is given, partners can typically handle general personality differences well. A simple example can illustrate this: Suppose two people are both introverted, one person is looking for a monogamous relationship and the other an open relationship. Obviously, these two people are not suitable for each other, and conflicts or frustration would be pre-programmed in such a relationship. The similarity in introversion changes nothing about this. Conversely, an introverted and an extraverted person can become very happy together if, for example, both are looking for an open relationship. One person will tend to be more reserved and the other more sociable, but the agreement on the basic relationship model allows for a harmonious and satisfying relationship management. To our knowledge, Consonance is the only online matchmaking service in the German-speaking region that does not primarily focus on general personality similarity but performs a matching of specific needs, desires, and relationship models. Likewise, it is a unique selling point of our matchmaking service that we also consider rare characteristics and can thereby significantly improve the prospects for successful relationship management.

Rare Characteristics

As an alternative matchmaking service, Consonance is particularly committed to people with rather rare characteristics. Ultimately, such rare characteristics affect everyone. For here or there, all people have individual peculiarities with a rarity character.

But precisely rare characteristics are often particularly significant and can considerably complicate a partner search, as well as the search for friendships in case of incompatibility, or significantly facilitate it in case of compatibility.

Consonance specifically searches for potential partners for individuals with rather rare characteristics, such as vegetarianism, veganism, illnesses and disabilities, asexuality, pansexuality, transsexuality, bisexuality, preferences for BDSM or SM, and many others. In addition, at Consonance, a number of characteristics that are in the minority in the general population are in the majority or at least evenly distributed, such as interest in an ecological lifestyle or interests in spirituality and esotericism. This results in improved prospects for a successful conclusion to the partner search for people with corresponding characteristics.

By consistently orienting matchmaking not only but also towards rare characteristics, the derived partner suggestions do greater justice to the central characteristics of the individual persons. At the same time, we all have rarer characteristics in one area or another, so the entire community benefits from our focus on individual and rarer characteristics in their partner search and friendship search.

Rarity does not mean excluding someone, but that everyone is seen in their peculiarities and possibilities. Such an inclusive community based on acceptance enables mutual care, love, and friendship to be built and maintained.

Personality Similarity

At Consonance, we use general personality only for fine-tuning; the largest portion is determined by preferences, relationship models, and rarer characteristics. Personality similarity based on general characteristics therefore contributes to our matchmaking only to a very moderate extent.

You can also imagine this as a two-step system of matchmaking:

  • The focus is on the compatibility of preferences, desires, and lifestyle as specifics of individual lifestyle management. Only in the second step is the compatibility of the general personality structure also optimized.

Consonance orients itself towards the world’s best-established 5-factor model of personality (Big Five) with the basic personality factors Neuroticism, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, and Openness to Experience.

To promote the effectiveness of its matchmaking for the benefit of its members, Consonance has developed a scientific questionnaire based on the so-called IPIP items (International Personality Item Pool) and extensively examined it for reliability and validity. This ensures that the Consonance MATCHING actually uses those personality characteristics that are best and most comprehensive for describing relatively enduring general human traits and behavioral tendencies.

The significance assigned to general personality within the Consonance matchmaking varies depending on the significance and rarity of other characteristics of lifestyle or appearance, whereby we assign the most weight to the aspect of openness to experience, as agreement in this personality dimension seems to be most strongly associated with relationship satisfaction.

Individualization of Matchmaking

In addition to considering central characteristics of lifestyle and preferences, appearance, and personality, Consonance goes one step further in the individualization of matchmaking:

  • If a member has individually particularly central characteristics that are not yet considered by Consonance, these are newly introduced and re-assessed from all members.

In this way, over time, Consonance has already increasingly expanded the individual characteristics recorded and will continue to accommodate its members in this way to be able to optimally support their partner search:

  • Recently, for example, we introduced autism and Asperger’s as further criteria at the explicit request of members with autism and Asperger’s. We are now the only psychologically based dating platform that enables a dedicated partner search for autistics and a partner search for Asperger’s syndrome.

But autism is by no means the only characteristic we introduced at the suggestion of our members to support their partner search:

  • Further characteristics we introduced at members’ request include artistic lifestyle, Absolute Beginners, or agnosticism as distinct from atheism, to name just a small sample. Likewise, at the explicit request of members who use a wheelchair, we introduced the acceptance criterion “Situation: wheelchair.”

Consonance sees itself as a member community. Through regular surveys and the evaluation of correspondence, we constantly evaluate the views and experiences of our members to make our matchmaking and our overall community as helpful and attractive as possible for our members and to keep pace with the changes of the times.

Separate Matchmaking for Partnership and Friendship

Friendship and partnership are the two essential interpersonal determinants of individual life satisfaction. Both determine the extent of social integration, which contributes decisively to subjective well-being in the sense of positive shared experiences as well as in the context of assistance in life crises and under stress.

Consonance is the only “contact exchange” that explicitly separates partner search from friendship search. Both forms of matchmaking are partly based on different criteria (e.g., ideas of friendship, ideas of partnership), which is because different wishes and needs can be placed on a friendship than on a partnership. Partner suggestions and friendship suggestions are also delivered in separate folders to avoid confounding the two types of matchmaking.

At Consonance, you do not have to be single to gain real friends through a membership.

While partner search and general contact and friendship search are conducted separately at Consonance, both types of matchmaking are based on the overarching Consonance PRINCIPLE of compatibility of lifestyles, personalities, and needs. In addition, both types of matchmaking are aimed at an alternatively oriented membership that combines environmental awareness, social responsibility, and tolerance towards different lifestyles.

Compatibility Instead of Mass Lists in Online Dating

In terms of the number of partner suggestions and friendship suggestions offered, Consonance cannot and does not want to compete with the large dating agencies, singles sites, and dating platforms on the internet that claim to have hundreds of thousands or even millions of members.

As a reputable matchmaking service, Consonance addresses an alternative clientele and does not offer the possibility of free memberships to prevent data spam and multiple profiles. Consonance is a small but established dating provider for 20 years that, similar to a classic matchmaking service, does not rely on mass lists of suggestions but optimizes the individual compatibility of individual suggestions and continuously looks for matches to existing members when new members join. Suggestions are made over time. The principle is matchmaking until success. Because it is truly only a matter of time until the truly suitable person comes and is then suggested.

Consonance considers the principle of a rather small number of suitable suggestions over time to be far more effective and reputable than the mass list approach that currently dominates partner search on the internet.

This can also be easily demonstrated using a thought experiment:

  • If a member receives 100 suggestions, then the members suggested to them also each receive about 100 suggestions. This drastically reduces the chance that one will be noticed by the other member at all or that a deeper communication process can develop. Offering mass lists encourages a consumer attitude in which more and more partner suggestions compete with each other, so that the value of a single partner suggestion approaches zero. Mass lists tend to promote superficial chatting with quick contact breaks, but even if a genuine communication process develops, it can be quickly broken off by interference from new suggestions on one side or the other.

Consonance takes a completely different approach here by defining itself primarily as a continuous search process that makes a suggestion whenever there is a genuine compatibility. Especially with rare characteristics and strong geographical or age-related restrictions, this can mean that it may take some time before the first suggestion is made. However, this first suggestion is immediately associated with increased chances of success because it fully takes into account the central search criteria.

Consonance therefore offers its members less of a system to receive immediate and as many partner suggestions or friendship suggestions as possible, but rather a membership at Consonance represents, above all, an option for a future partnership or friendship.

Studies show that with the constant availability of new profiles, as on dating apps, a devaluation attitude arises, always hoping for an even better suggestion and decreasing willingness to commit. This creates Liquid Love, as sociologist Zygmunt Bauman calls it:

  • A form of “love” that is superficial and exchangeable, a consumer good that no longer has sustainability.

At Consonance, we consistently focus on the opposite of Liquid Love, and we have optimized all our steps and activities so that long-term stable, mutually enriching relationships can develop.

Seriousness of Members’ Intentions

Consonance can guarantee the seriousness, authenticity, and reputability of all member profiles to a very high degree. Because Consonance – unlike almost every other dating site, singles site, dating agency, or matchmaking service on the internet – does without free member registrations.

Consonance views free member registration as a rather unseemly advertising trick of matchmaking services and singles sites that allows them to aggressively advertise a huge number of members, even though the majority of members are not actually seriously looking for a partner. Charging a mandatory membership fee therefore represents the entry threshold at Consonance, which significantly contributes to Consonance being a reputable matchmaking service where those who are truly serious and committed to finding a partner can be found.

Online partner search is made more difficult by the large number of spammers, multiple profiles, pseudo-profiles, “dead” (i.e., expired) profiles, as well as pure picture collectors and also people who state they are looking for a partner but are actually only looking for short-term sexual contacts.

The majority of profiles published on the internet for partner search represent such fake or unseemly profiles. The problem here is not only that it is an annoyance for the seriously searching individual, but also that valuable time for communication is lost and a number of contacts no longer materialize because there is no easy way to distinguish between genuine and fake individuals seeking a partner. Ultimately, this reduces motivation and effort on all sides.

Consonance not only charges a mandatory initial fee but also regular moderate renewal fees. This means that – in contrast to other singles sites and matchmaking services – no “dead profiles” develop over time at Consonance; rather, Consonance’s database is always up to date, and the members are genuine, reputable, and seriously looking for a partner or for friends.

Also, the explicit orientation of Consonance towards alternative ideas and lifestyles, which is communicated very clearly on the website, improves the database quality. This is because people with increased social-ecological responsibility, a spiritual basic attitude, or pronounced interests in psychology are overall more reliable, authentic, socially compatible, and reputable in their dealings with other people.

The special orientation of Consonance thus additionally contributes to improving database quality as a decisive parameter for the effectiveness of matchmaking.

Ensuring a significantly increased seriousness of members’ intentions compared to other dating sites and an accordingly extraordinarily high database quality is for the benefit of all Consonance members, because this creates the decisive prerequisite for the actual success of their partner search.

Security, Data Protection, and Confidentiality

As an alternative dating system for a reputable partner search, Consonance places the highest value on the personal safety of members, as well as the absolute protection of all data and the maintenance of confidentiality.

Security is also ensured particularly by the high seriousness and reputability of its members’ intentions, which Consonance guarantees due to its entry requirements. Individuals with dishonest or even criminal intentions are much more likely to register with one of the numerous free matchmaking services and singles sites than to choose membership at Consonance.

Nevertheless, 100% security in the search for a partner and for friendship can never be guaranteed. Consonance recommends that its members first exchange information more intensively via the anonymous cipher system before getting to know each other by phone and later in person. It is also advisable that the first personal meeting takes place in public places and that a friend is informed about the meeting.

Sensible security measures should not, however, lead to hysteria, generalized mistrust, and excessive caution, especially since the probability of meeting people with dishonest or even criminal intentions at Consonance as a reputable matchmaking service is low.

As an environmentally conscious and socially minded person with openness to alternative ideas and tolerance for diverse lifestyles, you have the best chances through Consonance’s alternative dating system to find the partner for a shared life, partner (bisexual search), and real friends:
