There is a rather Western religious cluster (Christian, Jewish, Muslim), an Eastern religious cluster (Buddhist, Hindu, Shinto), a predominant affirmation of esotericism, the affirmation of a single religion, or a critical attitude toward all forms of religion and spirituality.
Atheists usually also evaluate agnosticism positively, although there are also some atheists who evaluate Buddhism positively.

Atheism and Agnosticism Among Consonance Members

As already mentioned, Consonance (Gleichklang) supports both our atheist and agnostic members and those who incorporate religious or spiritual ideas, beliefs, or practices into their lives. In principle, people with different religious ideas and attitudes toward religion can have happy relationships with each other. We therefore generally do not advocate for a focus on individuals with identical attitudes.

At the same time, it is important to take individual boundaries and value conflicts seriously. If atheism or agnosticism constitutes a central component of one’s own value system and self-understanding and thus creates a permanent fundamental conflict with partners who practice religious or spiritual practices, this can impair the foundation of a shared relationship. In such cases, it makes sense to establish fundamental compatibility through matching to avoid recurring conflicts and enable open, respectful interaction with each other.

Our experience and evaluations show that both shared atheism or agnosticism and the interplay of different ideological positions can produce lasting relationships as long as mutual acceptance and the willingness to communicate are present. On the one hand, there is a recognizable but not exclusive connection between meditation, yoga, and spirituality.
On the other hand, it also becomes visible that even people who deny spirituality meditate or practice yoga — at Consonance, this is 26%. The practices thus transcend ideological boundaries and can be part of different lifestyles.
