Online Dating for Meditators and Yoga Practitioners at Consonance (Gleichklang)

Meditation and yoga are widespread among Consonance members.
At Consonance (Gleichklang), we support the friendship search and partner search for meditators with the help of our psychological matchmaking service and friendship matching service. We implement this specialized dating for meditators using our psychological matching algorithm, which brings together people who have high compatibility in their values and life practices.
This compatibility of values and lifestyles also includes the practice of meditation and yoga. Members of Consonance who meditate or practice yoga have the option to indicate in their online dating that their relationship partners should also meditate or practice yoga.
Shared meditation and shared yoga can indeed be advantageous for a partnership or friendship from a psychological perspective:
- The acceptance, appreciation, and consideration of partners’ meditation practice. This also includes the practice of meditation by the partners themselves.
- The experience of shared meditation in a relationship can be valuable and improve the depth of the relationship.
In order to optimally support our meditating members in their dating on our platform, we therefore conduct the following survey among all our members:
- In a loving relationship, shared meditation practice is very important to me.
If two members affirm this question, they will be preferentially suggested to each other in the matchmaking service – and analogously in the friendship matching service – provided there is also a good fit in other areas.
Through dating for meditators at Consonance, singles who meditate and place value on meditating together have the best prospects of successfully completing their partner search and friendship search. The same applies to yoga practitioners.
The consideration of meditation in the matchmaking service is an important unique selling point of Consonance in the entire German dating landscape – no other dating app, matchmaking service, or dating site offers specialized dating for meditators:
- Meditators for whom shared meditation is important, and yoga practitioners who want to practice together, have little chance of finding suitable people on well-known dating apps, dating sites, and also on other matchmaking services in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
- Where others stop, we at Consonance are just getting started with our dating for meditators and yoga practitioners, giving the partner search for meditators and yoga practitioners a high chance of success.

Meditation and Loving Relationships at Consonance (Gleichklang)
Psychological studies show that meditation can improve relationship quality. Relationship quality already increases when one person meditates. However, shared meditation is experienced by partners as particularly valuable. Based on these findings, it makes sense to specifically consider meditation in online dating as a partner search for meditators. We have implemented such a matchmaking service for meditators at Consonance.
A number of psychological studies support the positive effects of meditation on partnership relationships:
- In a qualitative study, a team of psychologists examined the effects of meditation on partnership relationships using interviews. The meditators surveyed reported that through their meditation they experienced increased openness to sensory and emotional experiences in the here and now. They also found it easier to perceive their own thoughts and feelings from an observer’s perspective. The result was that they felt growing acceptance toward themselves and others, as well as more compassion and kindness. This growing acceptance of themselves and others led to more security and freedom in their relationships. They were more open and at the same time better able to express their love. They experienced a stronger sense of connection with all things, which also increased their connection with their partners, while also being able to remain well separated. More trust emerged in their relationships, which at the same time led to more independence and less painful emotional dependence.
- Psychologist Yoona Kang also examined the effects of meditation on relationships and concluded from her review of the research that meditators often experience states of self-transcendence that are accompanied by feelings of happiness and joy. When these states of self-transcendence in meditation are integrated into exercises for compassion and social values, positive feelings toward other people can be promoted. This is not about purely hedonistic feelings directed only at one’s own person, but about the meditative expansion of these positive feelings to others, which can stimulate love, connection, and perspective-taking.
- Mindfulness is a concept from Buddhist meditative practices that has found widespread acceptance in scientific psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy. It is about establishing a mental attitude that encounters the environment and external and internal experiences with open and non-judgmental attention – consciously perceiving without directing perception through judgments in a particular direction.
- Psychologist Christopher Quinn-Nilas presented a review on mindfulness as a personality trait and satisfaction in partnership relationships. He observed that mindfulness promotes relationship satisfaction in all age and gender groups and among married and unmarried couples.
- Psychologist Cheryl Lynn Kruse (2002) observed higher satisfaction, a focus on growth, and a deeper sense of connection in loving relationships through body- and sexuality-oriented Tantra practices. Another team of psychologists examined the effects of so-called orgasmic meditation. They found evidence that orgasmic meditation increased closeness between practitioners, with closeness continuing to grow with continued practice.
- In his doctoral dissertation, psychologist Justin P. Laplante (2019) examined the effects of meditation on couple relationships. The meditating participants surveyed reported improved communication, better approach behavior, and more perspective-taking. They were able to be more mindful and present in the relationship. They experienced more connection and compassion while also being better able to communicate their own experiences. They were more present during sex and therefore experienced an increase in their sexual satisfaction. They were better able to talk with their partners, express themselves better, and respond better to their partners. Overall, their sexuality was more fulfilled through meditation. The meditators surveyed experienced shared meditation practice with their partners as particularly positive. Through this shared meditation, a common language, common understanding, and more connection had developed. But they also experienced the time itself in which they meditated together as a couple as quality time. Through meditation, they came closer to each other. Shared meditation created a profound sense of shared goals, values, and worldviews. Meditation thus enriches their entire shared life.
It becomes clear that shared meditation reinforces the positive effects of meditation on relationship quality and strengthens meditating partners in their loving relationship and joy of life.
Incidentally, studies described similar effects for yoga as for meditation, with yoga and meditation overlapping in many ways anyway:
- A team of psychologists reported improved social interaction skills in relationships through increased perspective-taking, patience, kindness, and connection among yoga practitioners. Another team of psychologists observed similarly more calm, compassion, mindfulness, and connection in relationships through the practice of yoga.
Meditation, yoga, and love – there is therefore a close connection. Meditation and yoga can improve relationship satisfaction in couple relationships and the relationship skills of practitioners.
Shared meditation is, so to speak, the crowning glory, allowing partners a degree of shared understanding and connection that cannot be achieved through meditation by just one person. Meditators can therefore be advised to consider their meditation in their online dating and to seek a new love with another person with whom shared meditation will be possible. This is also the logic of the matchmaking service for meditators at Consonance.
Dating, Meditation, and Yoga at Consonance (Gleichklang)
In a representative survey for the Federal Republic of Germany, only 7% of respondents stated that they meditate. 6% reported practicing yoga.
In our Consonance community, the numbers are quite different:
- 49% of Consonance members state that they meditate.
- 47% state that they practice yoga.
- 64% of members meditate, practice yoga, or do both.
Meditation and yoga are therefore practiced far more frequently by Consonance members than is the case in the general population.
In the Consonance dating community, it will therefore be easy for you to meet other meditators. With high probability – supported by our matching algorithm – you will meet other people at Consonance who share your interest in meditation and yoga and with whom you can begin an emotionally deep partnership or friendship.
Against the backdrop of the scientific psychological findings, our recommendation is to bring meditation and yoga into your online dating from the very beginning – into the getting-to-know-you phase and into the developing relationship. In this way, you can initiate a process of shared self-expansion that will lead to more understanding, acceptance, emotional-spiritual depth, and connection.
Yoga, Meditation, and Spirituality at Consonance (Gleichklang)
How are meditation and spirituality connected?
Here are some numbers we have collected from members of our dating community:
- 80% of members at Consonance who affirm spirituality practice meditation, yoga, or both.
- 49% of those who neither affirm nor deny spirituality practice meditation, yoga, or both.
- 26% of those who reject spirituality practice meditation, yoga, or both.
Meditation and yoga are therefore often embedded in spiritual orientations. But this connection is not complete, and there are also members who meditate or practice yoga and do not have a spiritual orientation:
- The self-awareness and self-expansion that practitioners of meditation and yoga experience can well be classified as spiritual, but does not have to be. At Consonance, we also support our spiritual members, many of whom feel drawn to Buddhism or Hindu religions, in their partner search. Spirituality and religious orientations are also surveyed among our members, and we take these into account upon request in the matchmaking service and friendship matching service.
Highly sensitive individuals are another group whose partner search and friendship search we support with a special option. Highly sensitive individuals have increased perceptiveness, more compassion, a greater need for silence, and faster sensory overload. Highly sensitive people are often interested in spirituality, and most highly sensitive individuals practice meditation or yoga.
Summary: Online Partner Search, Meditation, and Yoga at Consonance (Gleichklang)
Meditation improves relationship skills and leads to more openness, mindfulness, perspective-taking, and connection. Particularly positive effects on loving relationships result from shared meditation. Yoga has similarly positive effects as meditation.
For meditators and yoga practitioners, it is therefore advisable to pay attention in their partner search to meeting another person who also meditates or practices yoga for a partnership relationship. Because this increases the prospect of a particularly deep, happy, and sustainable relationship in which both partners can develop together.
Through the online partner search at Consonance, the partner search for meditators and yoga practitioners is made significantly easier. We are not a dating app and also not a mainstream matchmaking service. We are a dating community with a very high openness to meditation and yoga. At Consonance, as a meditating or yoga-practicing person, you therefore have the best prospects of successfully completing your partner search.
