Consonance (Gleichklang) supports the partner search of intersex singles or intersexual persons, also referred to as intersexuality or third gender, with a special matchmaking option. Intersex people are also called hermaphrodites or intersexuals. Some reject these two terms, while other intersex individuals continue to use these terms for self-description.

Intersex or intersexual means that people display the biological characteristics of both genders, “man” and “woman.” In the past, surgical corrections were often performed immediately after birth, but these are now obsolete and are viewed by those affected as an attack on their human dignity and as an unjustified pathologization of intersexuality. Intersex or intersexual must be distinguished from Intergender, which does not involve biological characteristics but rather identification with male and female gender traits.

Due to societal pressure toward the binary gender norm, intersex people may increasingly encounter rejection in online dating. Different Terms

• The terms hermaphrodite and intersexual are sometimes still used as self-designations. Typically, however, those affected prefer the terms “intersexuality” and “intersex people.” The also frequently used term “intersexual” comes from the Latin sexus, meaning gender. In German, the term intersexual can be misunderstood, whereas the term intersex is unambiguous. Intersexuality can be classified under the overarching term of non-binary gender.

Intersex people can identify at Consonance (Gleichklang) as non-binary or also as non-binary male and non-binary female if they identify more strongly with the male or female gender. Additionally, they can indicate that they value acceptance of their intersexuality in all partner suggestions. Thus, at Consonance (Gleichklang), we truly succeed in making dating significantly easier for people with intersexuality. Incidentally, this makes Consonance (Gleichklang) the only matchmaking agency in the German-speaking region that enables intersex members to have an effective partner search and friendship search.
