What Are Spiritual Communities? – at Consonance (Gleichklang)
Spiritual communities are lifestyles in which people consciously base their daily lives on a shared spiritual orientation:
- Those who want to find a spiritual community are usually not just looking for contacts, but for a binding form of coexistence in which meditation, yoga, mindfulness, prayer, rituals, ceremonies, or contemplative practice are an integral part of everyday life.
- Spiritual communities can be oriented toward Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, be interreligious, nature-spiritual, anthroposophical, or consciously religion-neutral. Some live in a Christian monastery or Christian community, others in a Buddhist monastery, an ashram, a Hindu community – for example in the mountains of Switzerland – in a spiritual ecovillage, or in a spiritual commune.
- Internationally renowned projects like Auroville represent larger spiritual settlement forms, while in the German-speaking region there are numerous smaller spiritual communities that consciously combine communal living and spiritual practice.
We at Consonance are not only here for joining existing communities. With the help of our members and the community contact lists, new spiritual communities are being created.
Life in a Spiritual Community – at Consonance (Gleichklang)
Living in a spiritual community means integrating spirituality into relationships, work, and everyday life.
In many spiritual communities, there are shared times for meditation, yoga, prayer, or mindfulness practice, communal rituals and ceremonies, discussion circles, periods of silence, or spiritual study groups.
In Buddhist communities, meditation is often the focus; in Hindu ashrams, yoga and mantra practice; in Christian communities, prayer and liturgy; in nature-spiritual projects, seasonal rituals or ceremonies connected to nature.
Empirical research on intentional communities often shows high life satisfaction among members. A large study with over 900 members identified a sense of meaning and social support as key factors for high subjective well-being.
Research on ecovillages emphasizes the importance of cooperative culture and conscious conflict resolution for the stability of communal life.
What becomes clear from the research:
- Spiritual community can provide meaning, belonging, and orientation. At the same time, communal living requires a willingness to take responsibility, the ability to handle conflict, and inner clarity about one’s own spiritual direction.
Consonance Supports – You Decide – at Consonance (Gleichklang)
Consonance supports the search for a spiritual community and the founding of spiritual communities.
As a platform, we remain neutral in this.
In the community list, you will also find many non-spiritual communities and projects such as vegan communities, ecological communities, artist communities, or politically oriented intentional communities, whereby often all these orientations can also be combined with one another.
The members decide whether, and if so, which spiritual concepts are close to their hearts and how these should be implemented in a community.
The chance to find people here who are also looking for a spiritual community or who want to found a spiritual community is high.
We at Consonance are definitely by your side to make your search for a spiritual community or your wish to establish a spiritual community a reality:
