Our Philosophy: A Different Approach to Dating
Long-term orientation
Online dating is a long-term and multi-stage process for us. It begins with the search for psychological compatibility, continues with mutual communication (initially via email, later by phone and direct meetings), and ends, if all goes well, with a mutual commitment decision. Online dating at Consonance can easily take 1-2 years or even longer. But eventually, the optimal match will come along, guaranteed!
As a rule, a variety of search and communication processes will be necessary before a commitment decision is reached.
Even though such lucky cases exist, completing online dating within a short period of weeks or months is certainly not the rule.
Consonance (Gleichklang) is a matchmaking service. This means that online dating is not left to chance with us, but we systematically and purposefully search for people who are suitable for a partnership with you. As a matchmaking service, we pursue a significantly broader and more general approach than a so-called marriage agency. While quite a few members at Consonance would like to marry or enter into a registered partnership, this is not a prerequisite for participation. There are a number of forms of love and partnership design that Consonance also promotes. For us, the inner bond and stability of a relationship count. The form can best be chosen by the members themselves.
Qualitative orientation
Our main focus is not on quantity (database size), but on the quality of our database. We want to ensure — as best as possible — that only those who are seriously looking for a partner participate with us. We want to avoid our database being impaired by less serious seekers who may only want to take advantage of a free offer once or sample an idea they find exciting. For this reason, we charge a moderate fee from all participants without exception, in order to ensure the seriousness of our participants’ intentions for the benefit of all participants.
Naturalness
We want to make online dating with us as natural as possible and give ample room for individual characteristics. We are therefore not limited to the internet, but also enable participation by mail.
Role of appearance
Appearance is also important for online dating to varying degrees. However, we only consider it to a very limited extent in our matchmaking activities. The logic of our work is based on gradually presenting you with partner suggestions that match you according to lifestyle characteristics in a long-term search process. You will then use additional criteria, e.g., appearance, to decide for or against a suggestion. The same applies to the participants suggested to you. Please therefore assume that it takes a time-consuming matching process until you meet someone who truly fits you, not only according to our criteria but also according to your own criteria. However, we also immediately consider some external characteristics in matchmaking, such as height, weight, masculinity/femininity, intersexuality.
Psychological compatibility
We want to offer you psychologically compatible suggestions, not more or less suitable ones. We want to suggest exclusively people who, according to our psychologically based evaluation algorithm, have a high fundamental compatibility with you. We will therefore only make suggestions when the corresponding compatibility actually exists. This also points once again to the long-term nature of the matching process you should plan for.
Active search
We do not only conduct passive date matching but actively search to be able to make suitable suggestions. We do this by continuously aligning and optimizing our advertising measures according to relevant characteristics of our participants. Please expect that we may have to search first before we can and will make suitable suggestions.
Special target groups
Single parent dating, vegan & vegetarian dating, esoteric and spiritual dating — these are just three special target group offerings of the Consonance matchmaking service. We also successfully match plus-size individuals, asexuals, transsexuals, bisexuals, lesbians & gays, as well as pansexuals. Additionally, there are offerings for disabled dating, dating for people with mental or physical illnesses, and senior dating. We also match freaks with very special interests, and Consonance also offers an artist matchmaking service. At Consonance, you will find people with tolerance and high ethical standards. That is why Consonance members also sign the homepage petition for the closure of Guantanamo and oppose torture and the death penalty. Narrow-minded and exclusionary people are not welcome at Consonance (Gleichklang). Because Consonance is an alternative matchmaking service that enables effective online dating for those who do not follow the mainstream in everything.

It is important to us to do justice to all our participants as far as possible. We offer a special matching option, for example, for vegetarian or vegan individuals (see also Vegetarian-Vegan Action). We also consider religious affiliation in matchmaking on a case-by-case basis if it appears relevant to our participants. However, since we are not permitted to collect religious affiliation without prior written consent for data protection reasons, voluntary written submission of the relevant information is required in this case as well. If it is not central to you, you do not need to inform us of your religious affiliation at all to participate successfully in our matchmaking.
Another central target group for us is seniors, who are all too often neglected in matchmaking. Yet loneliness in old age is a critical problem, and more and more seniors are looking for a partner. We are therefore all the more pleased that seniors are increasingly trusting us and joining our matchmaking (see also: Consonance Seniors).
Of course, we also match heterosexual as well as gay (see gay matchmaking) and lesbian (see lesbian matchmaking) relationships. The matching principle does not differ between the heterosexual and gay areas. Studies have shown that the principle of lifestyle compatibility is of outstanding importance in heterosexual as well as same-sex relationships. Consonance represents a philosophy of diversity. We want to help our members find and implement their individually different forms of love, partnership, and cohabitation. Furthermore, Consonance is not limited to matchmaking, but also offers friendship matching as well as travel companion matching.
Individual support
We not only want to make matching suggestions but also accompany and support our participants individually throughout the entire search process and beyond, if they wish. We therefore offer a fee-based service hotline and additionally fee-based psychological email or telephone counseling. These additional services require considerable human resources with highly qualified staff, and it is therefore necessary to make them fee-based.
Nationwide matchmaking
Our company headquarters used to be in Berlin, but now it is in Hanover. However, we operate nationwide. We have just started a special campaign “More Than a Singles Site,” where flyers and other informational materials about Consonance are now distributed citywide. Corresponding campaigns are currently also taking place in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich, and Stuttgart. We have also significantly intensified our advertising measures in Austria and Switzerland.
